jesus_desert-550x599-184x200-2Lent is our annual period of preparation over 40 days for the great season of Easter and the celebration of the Resurrection promised us all.  Before he began his great mission Christ himself went off to the desert for 40 days to pray and to be alone, to step out of the world for a little bit and prepare himself to give himself for the sake of the world.  We’re not asked to go quite that far, but Lent does give us an opportunity to focus on the religious dimension of life, on what God asks of us, on what we can do for God, of what we can do for others and of how we can become better people by trying to do it all.  In preparation for the Feast of Easter and in hope of that great reward that it promises, we’re encouraged to set this season aside for a measure of prayer, penance, fasting and charity so that, in some small way, we may begin to build the Kingdom of God in the world today.  To help mark this season of Lent the following Services will be available.

“A lawyer, to disconcert Jesus, put a question , ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’  Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first commandment.  The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself.  On these two hang the whole Law and the Prophets also’.

Matthew 22:35-40
